Recently, Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai held talks with Mr. George Alogoskoufis, Greek Minister of Economy and Finance, in Beijing.

Mr. Bo Xilai positively appraised the development situation of Sino-Greece trade and economic relations and said that Greece was the biggest country of shipping worldwide and on the other hand, China was the biggest one demanding for shipping. Greece became the major cooperation partner of China in ocean transportation, now, more than 50% Chinese bulk cargo were transported by Greek fleet. The two countries were strongly complementary to each other in shipping and should further enhance the bilateral cooperation in areas of shipping, shipbuilding and maintenance, harbor construction and seafarer labor.

In the mean time, Mr. Bo Xilai also put forward a series of suggestions on promotion of cooperation in fields of small and medium-seized enterprises, tourism and telecommunication, and of balanced development of bilateral trade.

Alogoskoufis made an active response to the suggestion of Chinese Party and expressed that Greece attached importance to the contribution of China to the global trade, and would positively support all events benefiting to Sino-Greece trade and economic relations. He said that Greece would like to expand cooperation with China in shipping cooperation and give more orders to Chinese ships, and hoped that Greek harbors could become the trade bridge between China and European countries, Greece focused on its small and medium-seized enterprises and was interested in the bilateral cooperation with China in such field. He said that Greece wished to further enlarge export of traditional commodities to China like olive oil, wines and marbles.

On the same day, Mr. Bo Xilai met Mr. Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Belgium, deeply exchanging opinions on topics of expanding bilateral trade and two-way investment. Mr. Bo Xilai praised the fair position of Belgium on EU's anti-dumping investigation against Chinese leather shoes, and hoped that China and Belgium could maintain promoting EU to adhere to free trade. Reynders said that Belgium claimed the balanced trade policy and supported to provide fair competition environment for Chinese commodities to enter into EU market.
